'w' means 'lol' in Japanese. 'w' is the first letter of 'WARA-U' which means to laugh.

So people use it like, 'MAJI UKE-RU wwww' as 'It's so funny lolololol'

Like 'LOL', 'w' is only used in the text which is super informal and basically lowercase.
